Brooklyn Navy Yard
Grants Awarded
Internships for Brooklyn College Students
The Brooklyn Navy Yard (the Yard) was once the nation’s most storied naval shipbuilding facility and an important point for countless veterans as they returned home from serving our country. Currently, the Yard houses more than 450 businesses in creative, tech, industrial and other sectors, employing more than 11,000 in its five million square foot facilities and contributing $2.5B in economic impact each year to NYC. For more than 20 years, the Yard has put a priority on workforce development, ensuring that its economic activity translates into internships, jobs and careers for local residents and Brooklyn College students, particularly those who might not otherwise have had access to the kind of transformative, hands-on, professional internships that are increasingly considered essential for future employment. This grant will contribute to the support of dozens of Brooklyn College students with BNYDC paid internships during the summer and credit-based internships during the academic year.
