Center for Employment Opportunities
Grants Awarded
NY Returning Citizens Stimulus Campaign
The mission of The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) is to provide immediate, effective and comprehensive employment services to individuals returning home from incarceration and improve their economic stability. It was created in the 1970s as a project by the Vera Institute of Justice. Since becoming independent in 1996, it has expanded to 31 communities across 12 states. Its evidence-based program model includes workforce readiness and advanced training courses, transitional employment with immediate daily pay and performance feedback, job coaching and a year of employment retention support. This grant supports CEO’s cash assistance and financial literacy program for eligible clients transitioning home from prison. Direct cash assistance enhances the regular employment training and support programs of CEO by increasing the prospect of achieving and maintaining meaningful employment and reducing the risk of homelessness and future justice involvement.
