Kindred Motes is the communications and strategic engagement advisor for The Tow Foundation. He began his work with the Foundation in September 2022 as interim chief of staff, overseeing the Foundation’s communications and programs until January 2024. Kindred is the founder and managing director of KM Strategies Group, a social impact consultancy, and founder and managing fund advisor of The Etolia Fund.

Kindred works closely with the president to research and implement new approaches that deepen and expand the Foundation’s impact. He also oversees The Tow Foundation’s communications, amplifying the visibility of the Foundation’s work through collaboration, targeted communications, and strategic engagement.

Outside his work with the Foundation, Kindred currently serves as vice chair of the board of directors for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Alabama.

Kindred holds a B.A. in English from Birmingham-Southern College, where he was a Harrison Honors Scholar, and an M.A. in international relations with honors from the University of Essex in Britain.
