Majkin Holmquist is a playwright originally from a family farm in the Smoky Valley region of central Kansas. After graduating from Bethany College with a degree in Secondary English Education, she was co-founder of and producer for The Next Stage Theatre Company, an independent theatre company in Lindsborg and a board member of Broadway RFD, the longestrunning outdoor theatre in the state of Kansas. While producing theatre and developing her plays in her hometown, she worked as an Eighth Grade English Teacher at Salina South Middle School.
She attended the Yale School of Drama, graduating in 2018 with an MFA in Playwriting and is the 2023 Page 73 Playwriting Fellow. Since graduating, she has developed work with New York Stage and Film, Woodshed Collective, Bay Street Theatre, Page 73, Ucross, and Roundabout Theatre Company. Her play Tent Revival received a digital production by Paula Vogel’s Bard at the Gate series in partnership with the McCarter Theatre Center. She has also been a finalist for Colt Coeur, the Pacific Playwright’s Festival, and PlayPenn. She is currently a member of Midnight Oil Collective and Page 73’s Interstate 73 Writers Group.
She has taught at Bethany College, New Haven Cooperative Arts High School, and through the Yale Divinity School and now teaches in the Playwriting Department at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale.
Her plays include Tent Revival, Stargazers, Every Anne Frank, Quickmatch, Dog Pack Play, and Skinflint. Credits include The Quonsets (co-written with Alex Lubischer, Yale Cabaret), Broken Melodies (WVIT Women in Theatre Festival), and Styx Songs (contributing writer, Yale Cabaret).
